Quick Charge 4+ Announced By Qualcomm: More Faster Charging?

June 5, 2017 By Meenank Leave a Comment

Quick Charge is a technology that exists in few smartphones thanks to Qualcomm processors. When it comes to smartphone processors, Qualcomm is the first name that pops up on anyone’s mind.

That’s because Qualcomm has been making processors since long and it makes the most power efficient processors when compared to its subordinates like the Mediatek.

Last year, Qualcomm came up with the technology of Quick Charge 4.0. It showed the users that it is more power efficient and charges quickly when compared to QuickCharge 3.0. This year, Qualcomm is back with Quick charge 4+.

As we all know that one of the disadvantages of quick charge is that it produces a lot of heat due to more current input. This is why Quick Charge 4+ promises that 4+ is 3 degrees cooler compared to 4.

Qualcomm also says that this technology is 30% more efficient and charges a smartphone up to 15% faster than the previous technologies.

According to the Qualcomm’s website, these are the 3 enhancements that appear in Quick Charge 4+:

Dual Charge:

It is already an option in earlier versions, but now more powerful, Dual Charge includes a second power management IC in the device. Charging a device via Dual Charge divides the charge current, allowing for lower thermal dissipation and reduced charge time.

Intelligent Thermal Balancing:

a further enhancement to Dual Charge, intelligent thermal balancing is engineered to move current via the coolest path autonomously, eliminating hot spots for optimized power delivery

Advanced Safety Features:

Quick Charge 4 already includes rigorous built-in safety protocols. Quick Charge 4+ goes one step further and is designed to monitor both the case and connector temperature levels simultaneously. This extra layer of protection helps ward against overheating and short-circuit or damage to the Type-C connector.

Right now, apart from Nubia Z17, no other phone is offering this technology. Not even the S8. We believe that this feature will come up with latest smartphones like the OnePlus 5 or the Note 8.
